Tiny sound coming out of nowhere
Becoming bigger and bigger until you can not bear
Shining water streaming through the Forrest
Until the steaming cloud shows up at last.

Connection between Pearl and the article
Distraught over money, man kills family, himself - Los Angeles Times
articles.latimes.com/2007/jun/20/local/me-sbriefs20.2
According to this article, it states that a berkely man distraught over family financial problems fatally shot his wife, and two young children before turning the gun on. I think that this article is related to John Steinbeck's Pearl because Kino was also blinded by wealth to make a wrong decision. He knew that his family was more important then a pearl, but his first priority eventually became the pearl, which means family. The guy mentioned in the article also have been blinded by his finacial problem, and chose that over his family. I think that by the fact they were both blinded by wealth was the fact that made connections between the novel 'Pearl' and this article.
